Mr. Larson - 8th Grade Language Arts - 11/23/09

Today was SSR time.  After SSR, we started working on reviewing the Chapters 3-4 of the Study Guide.  For those who don’t have it with them, here’s the Outsiders Study Guide Ch 1-5 (Click on title to download file).

We are doing the Study Guide in place of having a test or assessment on The Outsiders. 

Some points we’ve clarified for those worrying about the 2nd Quarter Book Reports:  the students may count 100 pages of the Dear Jo book every student got to read for this quarter.  The book contains 188 pages but this was a compromise: some teachers wanted all and some wanted none so the compromise is 100; the students may also use the 180 pages from The Outsiders towards the 300 pages for the 2nd Quarter Book Report totals.  This means the students only have to come up with 20 pages on their own BUT they can’t do a Book Report on Dear Jo or The Outsiders; that’s the kicker.  The Book Report is due January 8th; the Friday before the end of the quarter.
